You Don't Know JAKK, Tuesday's Battle Goes to the Men in Black

Cataraqui II 5 vs JAKK Tuesdays 1

In the words of Peter Boyle “do not adjust your set”.  The scoreline is correct, and this write-up is a lot more pleasurable than many of the others.

The boys in black lived on their luck in the first half.  A hand ball in the Cataraqui II box shortly after the start was waved off by the referee.  This was clearly a “ball to hand” which did not interfere with play – so a good call there, but lucky enough.  Almost immediately after, pressure at the other end resulted in an own goal by one of the JAKK T defenders as he tried to clear a well hit cross from the left.  In the closing minutes of the first half, Peter Boyle got his foot to a far post ball and tucked it away for a 2-0 lead.  There were some mutterings that there was a hand ball involved in that goal as well.

There was considerable discussion at the half as to whether the JAKK T goalkeeper was “suspect” or clearly “guilty”.  He had coughed up a few high balls against the setting sun at Caton’s 2.

The second half was a break out by a bunch of frustrated players who have not scored enough goals in too long.  Three more goals followed, including a well placed free kick from Brian Harpell after Dino Laurie was brought down just outside the box.  (A somewhat harsh red card was given to the JAKK T offender). Other goal scorers were Dino Laurie and Val Tomsons. There could have been many more goals in the second half, but hopefully we are saving those for future games.

Once again this was a strong team performance, but this time with the correct result.  There was another great turnout from the fans who have been staunch in their support all season, despite frequent setbacks.  There was a special visit from the travelling Koozy McAlpine, and a number of photographs will be made available later in August.

The next match is once again at Catons’ 2 against KUSC at 6:30 on Tuesday August 5th: see you there.
