Sky Blues Enjoy Win Over Black Cat |
Cataraqui II 1 vs Cataraqui III 0
Spirited Club Derby Goes to Cat II
Two nights after the Canada Day fireworks, Cataraqui club mates let off their own in a spirited match that Cat II won by the narrowest of margins, 1-0.
The flow of the game ebbed back and forth with both sides having spells of midfield control. Cat III came on strong from the start and then the blue shirts began to control more of the latter stages of the first half which ended scoreless. Neither team had many shots on the keeper throughout the game.
Melvin Orozco played less than five minutes in Cat II’s net after a Stuart Reid challenge left him unable to continue. Val Tomsons filled in admirably and made the save of the game late in the second half on a Joel Badour PK. Val dove right to redirect the cracking drive only to see it end up at the feet of no less than three black shirts who could not put the rebound past the big Lithuanian.
That drama was set up by a goal at the 53 minute mark by Luc Hampel – the result of strong forward play by three Peters – Boyle Jr., Boyle Sr. and Jenkins who all had a touch on the scramble in the box.
The best part of the evening was the sharing of well earned pints back at The Toucan.
Cat II’s next game is a first round cup game against A Division Portuguese Benfica. Game time is 6:30 at Caton’s 1.
Both teams are in action next Tuesday. Cat III has a very good Vita squad 6:30 at Caton’s 2. Cat II has the pleasure of playing at the mosquito infested bandbox known as Willie Pratt in Amherstview – kickoff is 9:00.
