Pizzinato clutches MVP as~ ah, forget it, I'll let Alan tell the story |
Cataraqui III 1 vs Iron Duke FC 0
well guys what can i say , billies belgrano pylons have finally broken the duck, and got our first win of the season. on a balmy monday night at catons 1, the sky blues of cataraqui took on dave sly and 10 other guys.
from the outset cat were up to the task , mark(the wall) pizzinato stalked the six yard box like a behemoth in gloves, the man was like a wraith, moving in a cat like dance of grace mixed with an underlying attitude of "they shall not pass".
his four man defence consisted of playing at right back, brian " doctor death" docarthy, who with his shaved head and hard tackling was like the vision of the pale horseman to the other team. on the other side of the back line stood john " i am not as old as i look" mcgarry, maybe being chief advisor to the radical wing of the salvation army is finally taking a toll on the professor, his mind seemed to be a little distracted by the zimbabwe situation, but the man who bleeds green, white and gold came through in the clutch and played his usual solid game.
the defense was held together by the middle two ,barry(what team am playing for this week) cave, who played the game with coolness and maturity, as if he was out for a sunday stroll(well at that speed, anyway) , late in the game, in the opposition six yard box, barry rose like he had cement boots, he jumped so high you couldn’t get a cigarette paper under his feet ,to meet a warren "touchie" tuttie, corner, with the chance to put cat two up, but the ball hit the front, right corner of his head and went wide, the rust is still apparent in the cave game, but that will soon disappear and barry will patrol the back line like the colossus of rhodes ,on geritol!!
his central partner was "one of the andrews", he of the very long throw, who like the rest of the newer members of cat three has been improving by leaps and bounds every game, he tackled well and made some very telling runs up field to worry the other team and then still had the speed and wind to get back in position(ah, remember those days boys?).
the midfield four consisted of eddie(the jamaican nightmare)edwards, with his imposing and dare i say intimidating presence he cut a swath through the other midfield, they were full of running ,but on 50-50 balls with eddie "the eagle", they were like "HERE, TAKE MY SWEETIES", he also showed his great speed and touch, by putting away a great though ball from rob "REMBRANDT" lusink. to give cat the unassailable lead.
brian dodo started in right mid-field and turned in a performance of guile and speed, he made some telling right-wing runs and good crosses.
eddies central partner was alan(didn’t throw a wobbly this week) doyle.
on the left of mid-field was conor doyle , he played his strongest game so far for cat three, as soon as he can put on about forty pounds he will be a player to be reckoned with.
up front was rob (mad dog) lusink, who had his game cut short by a leg injury, medical staff are not yet sure whether its a hamstring or dutch elm disease!
mad dogs strike partner was danny.. andy.. dereck.. or george, his real name is young danny, but he gets called every other name you can think of, i think its that the older members of the team have dementia and cant remember who the hell anyone is , needless to say the young man has wheels and can play, he was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions, but that will change soon.
we had a number of subs that all contributed to the win. not least among them dave( i am therefore i must be) backhurst and pete (no pun intended, covered in sieman, look at that van) jenkins, also "the other andy, you know, the one from the toucan" came on in defence and played his best game of the season.
this was the first, i am sure, of many victories for the fledgling, belgrano pylons. we move forward with hope in our hearts and wind in our bowels.
