Hempel In Top Form As Cataraqui II Dominate

Cataraqui II 3 vs Scarpazza Homes Juventus 1

Football is a game of two halves.  The first half was punctuated by a cross from the left by SH Juventus which found the back of the net, and numerous shots on goal by Cataraqui II which found the goalkeeper.  Realistically there was only one way for this game to go, but as shots from Peter Boyle Jr, Luc Hempel and Brian Dodo were parried, went agonizingly wide, or hit the crossbar, there came that sinking feeling that it was going to be one of those nights.

The Cataraqui II squad was out in force for this one with only George (Whiter Shade of Pale) Lovell and Melvin Orozco absent from the 24 man roster.  It was a full-time job for Bill Stewart just to give everyone playing time (and too big a job for me to mention everyone by name).  Larry Hart and Warren Tutty were back from their European travels, the former displaying a Scottish tan and the latter an Italian tan (quite a difference).  Dave Backhurst looked in fair shape after his roughing up on Friday, and Eddie Edwards certainly looked no worse for wear.

Rob Lusink dispelled the fears of those of little faith with a cracking goal just before half-time.  It was just what was needed when it was needed.  Paul Blais, suffering from an equipment malfunction was replaced in nets by Val Tomsons about half way through the second half, but after the first goal and an excellent save from Paul diving to his left in the first half there was little action for the Cataraqui II ‘keepers.

Luc Hempel broke the deadlock rounding several defenders before calmly slotting the ball home, and Peter Boyle Jr drove home the insurance goal.

The boys in blue continue to sit atop the B Division, but are hotly pursued by Vita who we play next Tuesday night at Caton’s 1.  Again many thanks to the fans who came out for this one: although they were treated to a nail-biting first half, it was a beautiful night and the result ended up they way we had hoped.
