Fever Pitch a Curve as CAT I Drops One from the Top Spot

Cataraqui I 0 vs Fever 2

Cat 1: A Bump in the Road

Cat 1 played Fever tonight; the last place team coming into the game, but you would not know it from the effort they put forth. The game started out strong for Cat with two excellent shots early on from Jason Akers and Steve Vardy which both narrowly missed, each bouncing off the cross bar. The pendulum looked like it would continue to swing in Cat’s favour as a Fever player was given a red card midway through the first half for shouting obscenities at the linesman. However, that momentum was short to last. Fever dominated the rest of the game scoring two goals in the second half, even as they were a man down.

The first goal was a cross (I think) with the defense holding a line, when two apposing forwards slipped behind, hassling Alex and eventually collecting his tipped ball and putting it into the net. The next goal was a free kick taken excellently by the Fever striker, going short side over the wall. The rest of the game was a blur to me. So I thought I would put some bulleted points (Engineering Writing 101) for some of the points I remembered from the game:

1. Steve Vardy was again the MVP and played great despite the constant presence of an excellent forward on him the entire game;

2. Roman played despite a broken nose – and played very well, as usual;

3. Jason Akers played a solid game on the wing, both offensively and defensively;

4. Matt Harrod had a beautiful hard tackle late in the game – way to stick it to them Matt;

5. Ted Bailey stupidly collected his second yellow card of the season; and

6. Andy threw the ball far and played solid defense.

Everyone else had their moments, but you get the idea. We played hard, just not hard enough or smart enough. This was not our best night, but we will be back strong next week and back in first place. Let’s go boys!
