Cat II MVP Tomsons Gives a Cherry (Dr. Pepper) Performance |
Cataraqui II 1 vs The Keg 0
Another highly entertaining game from the boys in black. This time the score was in the right direction. Dino Laurie’s unstoppable shot early in the first half being the only difference between the teams on the night.
We are used to playing the Keg on the short field at Amherstview, and our results have never been quite what we would have wished for. The only similarity on this night was that the mosquitoes were out in force. Cataraqui II had the bulk of the play for the first twenty minutes with seemingly acres of room down the right hand side. We made good use of the space and the possession in this period and had several good chances, but only the one goal to show for it.
The Keg made a few changes and tightened up their midfield a bit which left them with more of the possession for the rest of the game. The marking at the back was very tight, and this kept the Keg’s chances down. Furthermore, Cataraqui II were very dangerous on the breakaway and only some great goaltending by the Keg kept them within striking range. When the Keg had to make do with merely a great goalkeeper, Cataraqui II had Val Tompsons. Val earned a well deserved MVP for his shut-out. Apart from stopping one shot with the middle wicket he was well in control in the air and on the ground. In the last minute he turned away what would have been a heart breaker at the nearside post.
This was a good team performance with everyone giving one hundred percent. Coach Kennedy was a picture of calm and restraint on the sidelines, and providing good clean fun entertainment for the onlookers. (Fortunately none of them had a camera).
The next game is back to the usual Tuesday night at Frontenac High School at 6:30 against the league leading and high scoring Soccer Plus United. Hope to see you there.
