The boys in black made an impressive job of repeating their great team performance of Friday, this time against league leaders Soccer Plus United at the Frontenac Secondary School ground. Once again Cataraqui II looked very solid in defence, and the fast flowing forwards kept United under pressure for the whole game.
Dino Laurie added to his goals’ tally with an excellent finish of a move which had started at the back and worked its way forward in a series of high quality one or two touch passes to the right hand corner flag. There Bernie Harpell worked the ball free and sent it across the face of goal for Dino to poke home.
Max Steele had his best game yet in nets. He was well in control of his six yard box and made some great saves at the feet of oncoming United forwards. There is little doubt we got the run of the ball on a couple of occasions, and United saw one or two chances go begging in the first half. In the second half the United challenges were stronger, but the defence was equal to the task. One cross did get away from the lads at the back, but the header from United went past the post. All in all a deserved win on a ground that does not lend itself to skillful passing of the ball, and throws up plenty of unexpected bounces.
A surprise feature of the night was former Cat II player, Kevin McEleny dressed for the opposition. The prince has found a new kingdom, but was on the wrong side of the gallant knights on the night.
The next game is also at Frontenac Secondary School against Scarpazza Homes on Tuesday, followed by a cup game at Woodbine 5 against the Cat I lads. Both games have a 6:30 kick-off.
