Cat I Land Another Victory as They Take on Pilot House |
Cataraqui I 4 vs Pilot House 1
Due to the Canada Day festivities this report is a little late coming. Cat 1 was at it again as they handily defeated Pilot House 4-1. Cat started out a little slowly in the first half, our usual style of control and passing hampered by the size and hard field conditions on Woodbine 4. However, Dave Ryding was able to chip a beautiful bouncing ball over the Pilot House keeper to make the score 1-nil. Unfortunately, not long after Cat took the lead Pilot House came back to even the score. The half ended on a sour note with Pilot House receiving a red card and Alex a yellow for diving.
With shades of the Fever game motivating Cat 1 to stay sharp, the second half began, and the boys looked like a much better team. The passing and communication, always the two keys to our success became much more effective and led to the midfield of MVP Roman Zablocki, Larry Hart, Steve Stutzman, Jason Akers, Graham Fedorak, and John Gallinaro to dominate the game and coordinate much more effectively with the strikers: Mark Schultes, Peter Boyle and Dave Ryding and led to many scoring chances, throughout the game. As usual all of the defenders turned in solid games. Coordinated in the middle by Steve Vardy at sweeper, Andy Nador and Artek Reznek on the wings and Ciaran Boyle and Matt Herod at stopper, Pilot House were limited to very few quality chances on goal. Those that did get through were handled excellently by Alex Fletcher.
The scoring spark that was needed to get Cat going was provided by Andy Nador who made and excellent run up the field and was able to bash in his own rebound making it 2-1 for the good guys. This did not sit well with Pilot House as their tackles on Alex became increasingly aggressive eventually leading to him sustaining and nasty whack on the thigh, but still managing to tough it out and play though the pain. Cat’s third goal was particularly pleasing to Coach Boyle as Roman managed to head in one of Andy’s long throw ins. Our final goal, late in the game came as Jason Akers made the Pilot House keeper pay for his long runs out of position as he calmly slotted a long lob ball into the empty net, thoroughly embarrassing their keeper.
Cat 1 plays again on Wednesday night at 6:30 pm at Caton’s 2.
