Boyle In Top Form As Cataraqui II Dominate |
Cataraqui II 7 vs Scarpazza Homes Juventus 0
It was a dark and stormy night at Caton’s Pasture where Cataraqui II opened their Division B campaign against a valiant, but hopelessly undermanned Scarpazza Homes Juventus side. Early goals by Peter Boyle, Rob Lusink and Larry Hart set the tone of the game. Peter Boyle Jr increased the lead to 4 with a very nice solo effort, leaving three defenders in his wake.
The chronologically challenged defence (not including young Vardy) was rarely called into action, but handled their task well. Paul Blais kept a clean sheet for the first half.
With the thunder rumbling and the lightning flashing at a safe distance, it seemed that only an act of God could save the young Juventus team, who continued to play with good spirit. There were a number of attacks to be fended off in the second half, but little to trouble Val Tomsons who had taken over in the Cataraqui II net.
A further series of goals by Luke Hempel, Brian Dodo (a calmly and meticulously placed finish) and Rob Lusink rounded off the night’s work.
SH Juventus will be a harder challenge with a full side, so credit to them for the way in which they played with the limited numbers.
Thanks to the fans who braved the elements and to the members of Cataraqui III who turned out to offer support. Many commented on the poor shape of the Caton’s 1 field. It is sad to see that little has been done to improve the condition of the surface in the off season.
All in all an ideal start to the season for Cataraqui II: lots of goals, no real danger, and a chance to shake off some rust.
Next week’s challenge is Vita Inter SC at the St Lawrence College ground.
Good luck to all the lads at the CanAm Tournament this weekend.
