Boyle Breaks Cat II Five Game Scoreless Curse Off a Perfect Corner from Rossborough |
Cataraqui II 1 vs ihMyBar 2
Well I didn’t even need to change the title of the document as I wrote this up. The score line was the same as the early season game. (Don’t worry, lads, for some reason we get another go at these guys.)
Let’s start with the positives. We played most of this game like a team enjoying their football. The whole tone was positive from start to finish. Things were even more positive in the Toucan afterwards. The passing was crisper, the tackling sharper and the chances on goal looked better. The result was our first goal in 5 games. This was an unbeatable header from Peter Boyle which went in at the far post from a well taken corner.
Some great play from Tyson and Max in particular, and good running by young Dino lifted the expectations. It was unfortunate to see Rick injured (he has sustained a nagging knee problem for a few weeks). He was wise enough to know when it was affecting his play. Kevin did a grand job taking over, despite having the wrong coloured shirt on.
While I rarely talk about my own endeavours on the field, I feel the need to comment on the number of times I was run over by the opposition. Each time this happened I was left with a bruise to prove it. However, the best incident by far was early in the second half. Having been unceremoniously dumped on the ground, Joel Badour kicked the ball into touch in case of a serious injury. The ball hit my arm on the way out. The result: a free kick to the opposition. The referee had been looking elsewhere (ie not where the play nor the ball was) and had missed the foul.
The Band on the Rum were back in the field behind, but had gotten into discussions of loftier things and were not singing. Perhaps we need to give them just a bit more reason.
Well done lads: a good team game, great spirit from the club and wonderful manoeuvring of the chairs and tables in the pub afterwards. As a newcomer to the Cataraqui II group, I must say I am really enjoying the time on and off the field.
